Goodbye Eurosport, and thanks for all the laughs!

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

It was with slightly heavy heart that mum and I sat and watched the final Moto GP of the 2008 season at Valencia. The racing from the various classes of GP race was eventful, and in places exciting, but ultimately when it was all over it marked a close of a long era. Eurosport, who, for as long as I’ve been watching GP motorcycle racing, have provided excellent, extensive coverage, made their last live MotoGP broadcast.

British fans for so many years have been entertained and engaged by the excellent, sometimes hysterically amusing, sometimes deeply heartening, always honest and engaging commentary of Julian Ryder, Toby Moody and Randy Mamola, with occasional contributions from Neil Spalding and a plethora of excellent guests and members of the sport, including journalists, team members, officials and riders past and present.

I’ll miss them. Thousands of fans will all miss them. I wish them all the best wherever they go and whatever they do.

I hope the BBC’s commentary and coverage improves, because it’s all we’ve got from here onwards…
